Several people have been injured after a car crashed into a primary school building in Wimbledon, south London. A major incident has been declared, but police said they are not treating the crash as terror-related.

Officers, firefighters, and paramedics, including London’s Air Ambulance, were called to the incident at around 9.54 a.m. on Thursday. The incident occurred at the school on Camp Road, where The Study Preparatory School is located.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said it was called “to reports of a Land Rover vehicle colliding with a primary school building”.  The statement said: "Officers from the London Air Ambulance [HEMS] and London Ambulance Service [LAS] attended.

“We know of several casualties. We await further injury updates. “Officers remain on scene. This incident is ongoing.” Fire crews are also at the scene. London Fire Brigade said on Twitter: “We are currently supporting emergency services at an incident at a school in Wimbledon.

“We have two fire engines and two fire rescue units at the scene.” Merton Borough Police tweeted: “We are not treating this incident as terror-related. An investigation is under way to understand the full circumstances of what has taken place.”

Members of the public are asked to stay away from the commons near the school. Wimbledon and Putney Commons said in a tweet: “Following an incident at the edge of the Common on Camp Road, the public is asked to avoid that area of the Commons to allow free access to the emergency services.”

Stephen Hammond, MP for Wimbledon, Raynes Park, Morden, and Motspur Park, said his thoughts were with all those at the school.

Mr. Hammond tweeted: “Very concerned to hear about the Study Preparatory School at Camp Road this morning. A major incident has been declared, and I know all emergency services are on site. My thoughts and prayers are sent out to everyone at The Study.”

The Study Preparatory School, which costs £5,565 per term, is for girls aged four to 11. It sits on Wimbledon Common, just a mile from the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, which hosts the world-famous tennis tournament.
