Mauricio Pochettino's dream Chelsea defence revealed

Mauricio Pochettino, the newly appointed Chelsea head coach, has expressed his desire to form his dream defensive line for the upcoming season. Levi Colwill, who had an impressive loan spell at Brighton, is at the center of attention as several Premier League clubs, including Brighton, have shown a strong interest in the young defender. However, Chelsea has consistently maintained that Colwill is not for sale this summer, despite Liverpool's interest.

Pochettino, excited to work with Colwill, plans to discuss the player's role and future at the club once he returns from international duty with the England U21 team. Chelsea is determined to extend Colwill's contract, which currently runs until 2025, as they see him as a key player in the upcoming season under Pochettino.

As for the defensive partnership alongside Colwill, Pochettino has a couple of options. The experienced Thiago Silva, known for his consistency and remarkable performances at the elite level despite his age of 38, could be chosen. Alternatively, Pochettino may opt for a younger approach by considering Wesley Fofana, who had an impressive debut season at Chelsea. Fofana showcased consistency and potential, aside from a difficult match against Manchester United towards the end of the season.

Beno๎t Badiashile is another option, but his left-footedness suggests that Colwill would be the preferred choice. Additionally, Badiashile is currently recovering from a serious hamstring injury, which raises concerns about his fitness by the start of the season.

Reece James is expected to secure the right-back position, provided he is fit and free from injury issues that have plagued him recently. Malo Gusto, who was signed by Chelsea in January and loaned back to Lyon, will provide solid cover for James and will compete for a place in the starting lineup. Gusto possesses attacking prowess and defensive capabilities.

On the left-hand side of defense, Ben Chilwell is likely to be the first-choice option, while Marc Cucurella's poor debut season at Chelsea suggests limited opportunities for him. Lewis Hall could be considered, having impressed in the left-back position towards the end of the previous season, but a loan move to another Premier League club to gain more experience may be a possibility.

Pochettino's dream back four would consist of Reece James, Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill, and Ben Chilwell. This defensive lineup offers a balance of experience and youthful potential, providing excitement for Chelsea fans. While the partnership may not be a long-term solution, it has the potential to work well for the upcoming season.
