Manchester United fans are desperateto signanother striker as quickly as possible. The Red Devils need to recruit a central forward to adapt to the team in pre-season, and a number of names have been mentioned as candidates. Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen are two such targets, but United are locked in talks with Atlanta for Rasmus Hojlund.
The Dane is a raw talent with plenty to prove, but he will most likely be easier to sign than Kane or Osimhen this summer. Here we look at how United could look in attack with Hojlund up front. When judging Hojlund, there is less to go on than with Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen.
His overriding characteristic is his explosive pace. For such a tall6'2 lad, he can get up to speed quickly due to his frame. Hojlund certainly has all the physical attributes of the ideal modern striker.
There is risk involved in the move, though. Atalanta want up to €80 million for a striker withoutexperience. He hasplayed five games for Copenhagen, 21 for Sturm Graz, and 34 for Atlanta.
His scoring records at each club are five, 12, and 10. It's an impressive return, but not the prolific numbers of around 20 and above that United needs.
Hojlund has scored some unique and different goals in his brief career, but time to adjust could be required. If United spend a big chunk of money on Hojlund, it's extremely difficult to imagine them signing another striker unless it's a cheap and opportunistic deal. Hojlund must be considered the main figurehead of the attack.
However, Hojlund could share the role with Marcus Rashford or AnthonyMartial during the settling in period. That could be until Hojlund has a handful of goals under his belt, rather than being thrown straight into the deep end.
Erik ten Hag has implemented a 4-3-3, which can morph into a 4-2-3-1, but either way, Hojlund would fill the striker role. There is no evidence that Hojlund played on the wings, which means that there is only one position for him.
No one player has decisively taken over the right wing role, with Rashford the starting option on the left. Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho will all hope to nail that spot down during the 2023–24 season.
