Speaker calls three ministers to explain why members of the National Food Suppliers Association haven't been paid in two years. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, has told the Business Committee to call three ministers next week to explain why members of the National Food Suppliers Association haven't been paid in two years.
It has been given to the ministers of finance, education, and food and agriculture to address the House and explain the problem's root cause so that Parliament can help the Executive find a solution.
In his address to Parliament, Speaker Bagbin talked about his surprise visit to the Buffer Stock Company in June 2022, which upset some people who thought he was taking over their duties.
Speaker Bagbin concurred with the Business Committee's decision to schedule the three ministers' appearance before the House, acknowledging the current circumstance.
"It is important that I keep drawing your attention as the representative of the people as the leader of this House and the head of the institutions so that you can properly represent the interests of your constituents."
"Presently, this is where we are currently. Therefore, I approve the Business committee's schedule for the three ministers' appearances before the House. The three ministers should explain the reason for the difficulty; He stated, "We will be able to assist the Executive in resolving some of these issues."
The request made by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a member of the National Democratic Congress who represents North Tongu, prompted the Speaker to issue a directive. Ablakwa expressed concern regarding the absence of the delayed payment issue in Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin's business statement.
Ablakwa emphasized the significance of the delayed payments to the nation by mentioning the food suppliers' ongoing picketing and demonstrations at the Buffer Stock Company over the past four days.
Ablakwa refered to a troubling video, shared by the Minority Chief, portraying impacted ladies moving on the floor at the Support Stock Organization premises.
He recalled the Speaker's visit to the Buffer Stock Company on June 23, 2022, when the food situation had already been warned about getting worse. He expressed his concern.
Ablakwa pleaded for the Finance, Education, and Food and Agriculture ministers to be scheduled for appearances before the House as soon as possible due to the urgency of the situation.
He likewise featured reports of the Pastor of Instruction's solicitation to the Money Clergyman for a delivery, which had not been conceded. Ablakwa urged Parliament to take immediate action to address the plight of hungry mothers and children.
