Kylian Mbappe gave an interview in which he criticized PSG and their shortcomings, which angered some of his teammates.
Six PSG players have filed a complaint with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi following Kylian Mbappe's comments.
The Frenchman, who is embroiled in a transfer saga with the French side, has claimed the Ligue 1 champions are a 'divided club' that tends to 'pull rumors'. Mbappe, who has been at PSG since 2017, also thinks they may have reached their 'glass ceiling'.
His comments, sent via L'Equipe, also showed him claiming that playing for PSG 'didn't help' some of the comments on his performance. According to Athletic, several of his teammates, including two new signings, have had issues with Mbappe and expressed their feelings to their superiors. The World Cup star was not able to give the Champions League to PSG - the trophy that this team most coveted. Mbappe has stated that their continued failures on the European stage must be addressed by the 'team builders' in a subtle dig into the hierarchy at the Parc des Princes.
Mbappe has refused to sign a one-year contract extension, which means he will be a free agent for 12 months. Real Madrid is considered his most likely destination, but PSG is adamant that the 24-year-old will not leave empty-handed.
Al-Khelaïfi says:
“We want him to stay, but he cannot go free. There was an oral agreement and he discussed it in an interview. And I was really shocked to hear that he decided to leave on a free basis. It's disappointing because Mbappé is a great guy, a true gentleman and goes free, undermining the biggest club in France, not him. When I heard the news, I was shocked and disappointed.”
PSG have begun a recruitment campaign, adding Marco Asensio and Milan Skriniar on free transfers as well as Manuel Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon. However, Al-Khelaifi has warned that, despite PSG's wealth, Mbappe will have to see his teammates sold if he is not released this summer as they prepare to cut their losses. I said:
"Next week, or at most two weeks, he has to decide for himself. And if he doesn't want to sign a new contract, the door is open. That's the way for him and the others. No one. Bigger than the club, no player, including me, that's very clear. By football standards, you never see your best player go free. It just didn't happen.
"We don't want to let the best player in the world go free, that's impossible. PSG is a French club, it's his city, and he has said he doesn't want to. go free. If someone changed his mind today, it's not my fault."
