The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested Alhaji Nuhu Fawa, the Techiman South constituency Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), for allegedly organizing his thugs to beat two party members mercilessly.
It is approaching election time, and the habitual party warmongers and troublemakers are beginning to spread false news and instigate issues that will end up in conflicts.
Reports from an eyewitness indicate that Alhaji Nuhu Fawa was arrested after allegedly organizing thugs to beat two aggrieved party members at a popular radio station in the regional capital, Sunyani. He accused them of spreading falsehoods about his personality and instigating conflicts of interest on a radio program.
According to the reports, the victimswere Chairman Fatwa's boys. These boys have terrorized opponents for years but have decided not to work for the constituency chairman again because of their selfishness. This infuriated the chairman enough to unleash his thugs.
Some branch executives and dozens of party supporters besieged the constituency office on Saturday, July 9, 2023. They besieged the constituency office and closed the party’s office amid tumultuous noise and insults. They accused the constituency chairman, Alhaji Nuhu Saliu, of sacking two constituency executives unlawfully without prior knowledge from any party heads.
The constituency chairman sacked two partyexecutives. He claims they have exhibited gross insubordination by engaging in anti-party conduct that violatesparty ethics. The two sacked executives, Fuseini Nafiu and Yussif Mohammed, were terminated in a letter dated July 3, 2023. This letter was signed by constituency secretary Edward Fosu Nsowah.
Branch Executives of the party, upon learning about the development, were agitated and closed down the party’s office. Those in red bands threatened to deal with anyone who opened the office without returning the suspended executives.
They have again called on the party's national executives to call their constituency chairman in order to restore peace in the party.
