Xabi Alonso wants to raid his previous club Liverpool for talent that Jurgen Klopp regards highly.

Liverpool's young left-back Luke Chambers has returned to Anfield after a brief loan spell at Kilmarnock, and Bayer Leverkusen is interested in taking him on loan.

Bundesliga team Bayer Leverkusen is considering a loan transfer for Liverpool's teenage full-back Luke Chambers.

The left-back spent the second half of the season on loan with Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership, where he made 16 first-team appearances. Chambers is a highly regarded player at Anfield, but he will not be part of the first-team squad this season.

Andy Robertson is Jurgen Klopp's established left-back, although Kostas Tsimikas is anticipated to provide cover in the position once more. Chambers, who has represented England at international level up to the Under-19 level, is anticipated to be loaned out again.

The adolescent is expected to join Liverpool's pre-season tour. Klopp's group will play Karlsruher and Furth in Germany before heading east to Singapore to face Leicester City and Bayern Munich before returning to England to face Darmstadt 98.

Chambers, who turned down the opportunity to play for England U-20s at this year's Under-20 World Cup in order to finish the season with Kilmarnock, is likely to be loaned out again before the season starts. Bayer Leverkusen of Germany has expressed an interest.

They use a 3-5-2 system with wing-backs and are coached by former Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso, however the two players that played the left wing-back position last season are no longer contracted to the club while Alonso looks for replacements.

Mitchel Bakker, a former Paris Saint-Germain winger, has left Leverkusen after two seasons to join Serie A club Atalanta, while fellow Dutchman Daley Sinkgraven has also departed the BayArena when his contract expired. As a result, the team is interested in Chambers, who would compete for the role next season.

In September 2022, Liverpool's first team assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders mentioned Chambers, along with Bobby Clark and Stefan Bajcetic, as "stand out" players from the club's youth divisions.

Left-back teammate Tsimikas earlier stated of Chambers, "This kid really impresses me." He's a fantastic player who is always dedicated in practice. My own advise to him is to "never give up dreaming and never give up working hard."

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes remarked after Chambers' first professional game against Dundee United in February that it was a "great debut" and that Chambers "was making his senior debut at 18, there was a lot of nerves, but the level of performance was very mature."
