A 25-year-old man has been burned to ashes for allegedly murdering a 70-year-old woman on her farm at Apaaso in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, identified as Papa Yaw, was said to have been lynched and murdered by some irate and irritated youths on Sunday, July 10, 2023, after they witnessed what the murderer had done to the 70-year-old woman. This is after they discovered he had killed Veronica Ampofowaa on her farm.
A resident known as Mr. Kwabena Gyamfi, who witnessed the incident, narrated that “Aunty Ampofowaa came to me early Sunday morning and reported that Papa Yaw had destroyed some foodstuff from her farm, and so she wanted us to come and witness the incident”.
“Instead of Aunty Ampofowaa waiting for me and my friends to accompany her to the farm, she opted to take the lead as I decided to get a friend to accompany us to the farm. We got to the area later and discovered she was not on the farm. We tried calling her, but the phone was seen in a bush after it rang several times."
“After searching the farm, I saw that Aunt Ampofowaa had been butchered multiple times by the suspect, who immediately took to his heels upon seeing me and the mob," He added. “The suspect cut open the 70-year-old woman’s stomach, exposing her intestines and other internal organs." continued the eyewitness, who also happened to be a resident.
Mr. Kwabena Adugyamfi added that he immediately notified police in the area about the incident, but the victim was already dead.
Her lifeless body has since been conveyed to Bekwai Hospital’s morgue for preservation.Killings and armed robberies have seen a significant rise in the country recently. The government and the police should make sure to curb such crimes by instituting strict punishment for the offenders.
