PSG CEO drops Kylian Mbappe hint after £170 million 'offer'
Liverpool have already signed Argentine World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hungary international Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig this summer.
Liverpool fans were surprised on Thursday when the Spanish press reported a €200 million (£170 million) deal for Kylian Mbappe.
The 24-year-old France international is one of the best players on the planet, having won six Ligue 1 titles and scoring a hat-trick in last year's World Cup final loss to Argentina. It's unthinkable that any Premier League team would turn down such a quality.
Mbappe's contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in a year, and it's uncertain whether he will renew it. Liverpool placing such a massive bid after spending so much money on Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai is unlikely... but not impossible.
Here are the most recent Merseyside transfer updates and rumours...
Mbappe of PSG hints
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi wants Mbappe to sign a new contract but has threatened to sell him if he does not. Because Mbappe has entered the final year of his contract, the Ligue 1 winners have only two options for selling the superstar: now or in January.
It's unlikely that such a large trade will occur in the midst of the season, so it's now or never for PSG to cash in. And if Mbappe does leave the Parc des Princes, he will be available to only a few clubs. One of them is Liverpool.
Real Madrid were the favourites to sign Mbappe, but they have ruled out a move. Manchester United is another option for the 2018 World Cup champion, but their ownership crisis will have to be sorted before September.
"Our position is very clear," Al-Khelaifi stated when asked about Mbappe's future. If Kylian Mbappe wants to stay – and we do – he must sign a new contract. We cannot afford to let the best player in the world walk away for free right now. That is simply not possible."
Chiesa's representative in England
According to Corriere dello Sport, Federico Chiesa's agent has been to England for transfer talks. According to Paisley Gates, Chiesa is awaiting approval to leave Serie A club Juventus for a fee of £34 million.
Liverpool are said to be interested in the 25-year-old, while Chelsea and Newcastle are also intrigued. Chiesa reportedly wants a salary of €5 million per year (about £82,000 per week). In 202 Serie A appearances, the winger has 38 goals and 39 assists.
According to Tuttosport, Torino expects Liverpool to make another proposal for defender Perr Schuurs. According to Sport Witness, Jurgen Klopp is looking for a new center-back after signing two midfielders in Mac Allister and Szoboszlai.
Liverpool is thought to have previously had a €30 million (£25.6 million) bid for Schuurs rejected by Torino, who is holding out for €40 million (£34.2 million). The Serie A club will consider any bids for the former Netherlands youth international, whose contract expires in three years.
Schuurs has made 33 appearances for Torino since joining from Ajax in August for €9.4 million (£8 million). The Dutchman previously played for Fortuna Sittard and Ajax, where he won six trophies, including three Eredivisie crowns.
