NPP Chairman for the Akim Oda Constituency, Mr Ampaabeng Assimeng who was a polling station agent for the party has revealed in a leaked tape how his own party paid 600 billion old currency to some members of NPP and Assin North voters but still lost woefully.
In the audio available to Ghanaweb, the Akim Oda NPP Constituency said
" What happened was that the money went into the wrong hands. We don' t know who was given, how much was given to each voter and the amount left.
At the four polling stations I was stationed, party executives made us understand that a whopping amount of GH600, 000 that is 600 billion old cedis was allocated for the Assin North by Elections but just look at the votes we had" .
The party reportedly allocated a staggering GH 600, 000 for the by- election, hoping to secure victory. However, despite the financial investment, the NPP failed to clinch the parliamentary seat. An insider within the party sheds light on the situation, revealing that the money intended for voters in Assin North went into the wrong hands. The exact distribution of funds and the identities of the recipients remain shrouded in mystery
He continued that " There were polling stations that are NPP strongholds. We were easily getting 1600 votes out of 2000 valid votes with NDC getting only 400 but look at what happened in the Assin North elections. Things didn' t go as we planned because some people sat on the money. If this is how we are going to break the 8 then God should have mercy. "
It appears that the disbursement process was disorganized, leaving party members unsure about who received the money, how much was given to each voter, and how much remained unallocated. While the NPP' s loss in Assin North may be disappointing, it serves as a valuable lesson for the party and other political entities.
