To make way for investigations into the death of a five-year-old boy, a pharmacy in Kenyase-Adwumam in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region has closed.

After preliminary investigations revealed that the Life Dream Pharmacy illegally dispensed drugs to the child who was bitten by a rabid dog in August 2022, agents from the Pharmacy Council took this action against the facility's owners on Friday (5 July).

A Chief at the Drug store Board in the Ashanti Locale Mr Benjamin Kwarteng Frimpong who drove a taskforce to the office told Accra-based Asaase Radio that a specialist around then regulated ATS Lockjaw infusion and gave out Efpac suspension, Amoxiclav suspension and L-ascorbic acid syrup as a treatment.

“Consequently, the communication to the parents was that everything would be resolved with the provided medications and that there was no need for additional intervention. However, "the child passed away just about after about one month and three days," Kwarteng disclosed.

He added: " Be that as it may, the case didn't come to us early. We moved into the facility after receiving a letter from the Health Directorate and being contacted by the Kwabre East Municipal Health Directorate for additional investigation.

Upon an assessment, it was uncovered that Life Dream Drug store was not satisfying the set down guidelines and guidelines set by the Board, subsequently the choice to close it down.

Since then, the facility's owners have been summoned by the Pharmacy Council to advance investigations.

The disciplinary committee will be notified of this development for further action. Since the committee has the authority of a High Court, we are considering license revocation, fines, and imprisonment.
