Veteran Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has shared some personal details about his failed marriage. The thespian disclosed that he stopped being a loving husband to his wife and focused only on their child. Speaking in an interview with Chude Jideonwo monitored by Naija News, Iyke said his marriage failed because he couldn’t cope with his mom’s death.
Iyke explained that after the loss, he could not sleep and had lost his sense of humor. He stated that he focused all his attention on caring for his newborn son and totally ignored his wife. According to him, ”When I lost my mom, I couldn’t find my feet for years. There is a lifestyle, an understanding, and a spirituality. It was only because I knew I had already made the mistake that I wanted to live outside of the world. Note that it took them 72 hours to let me know she was dead.
”I am the product of love. My parents were so in love with each other. Just as I was getting over my loss, my girlfriend got pregnant with my first son. There was no one to take care of anymore because that was my excuse to heal, and then there was nothing. The loss hit me; I couldn’t sleep. I wasn’t the loving man she met. I am the prankster in the family. I don’t even get invited to family meetings because I make them laugh.
“I lost my sense of humor; I lost the lion in me. I gave myself to the elements, and she suffered. I became an obsessive dad; I gave everything I had to my son; I changed diapers, and I was the popular stay-at-home dad. All of my possessions went to him, and I left her behind.
”I was a husband. I was an excellent father and a miserable husband. After a while, she said I couldn't find the man I married. We are friends, and I said if she can wait for me to get myself back, I will appreciate it, but if she can't, I will understand. She said we can't, and we are friends.
”I traveled out of the country to find a place, and I told them I couldn’t find myself, so I escaped to a private beach, I cried and poured out my emotions. I went to other countries to chill with white kids, and when I got back, I said, I am here again.”
