At least five people, including four Nigeria Police Force officers, were reportedly killed Monday midnight in Zamfara State by terrorists.

Naija News learned that the assailants stormed the Bungudu local government area of the state and began to fire gunshots indiscriminately. The deceased officers were said to have mounted a checkpoint along Bungudu-Gusau Road when the terrorists stormed the community and confronted them with gunfire.

Speaking on Channels Television on Tuesday morning, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the latest attack. He said police officers were shot dead in the confrontation.

A resident of the community who spoke with the news platform, Ibrahim Bungudu, also confirmed that four police officers were murdered in the incident. He disclosed further that the terrorists, or "bandits, also killed one person in Tagero village, located in the Furfuri area of the Bungudu Local Government Area (LGA).

According to him, the assailants also carted away many cattle belonging to Tagero village inhabitants. “The bandits ambushed the police along the Gusau-Bungudu road close to Nabature Company and killed four. They also rustled many cattle at Tagero village in Furfuri district. One person was shot in the hand in the village,” Bagudu reportedly said.

Another resident, Usman Bungudu, said armed terrorists ambushed police officers on checkpoint duty at midnight and killed four of them. The incident happened around 12 a.m. when policemen mounted a checkpoint along Gusau Road. The bandits ambushed and shot at them; they ran away after killing four policemen,” he said.

Terrorism and armed banditry have been rampant issues in Nigeria for some time now. It is quite fortunate to know that the problem of eradicating such bandits fueled by religion and political reasons is still operating by killing childlike people.

Innocent women and children die almost every day from this kind of insurgence in Nigeria and other places in Africa, but it is high time our leaders wake up and intervene.
