Erik ten Hag's name Man United squad for pre-season friendly against Leeds, with omissions explained
Mason Mount might make his debut against Leeds in Manchester United's first pre-season encounter, with the new signing part of a 26-man team that is missing some key players.
Manchester United will face Leeds in pre-season without Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, and Bruno Fernandes.
The Red Devils will travel to Oslo, Norway's capital, to face their rivals, whom they defeated by four points last season. United will play one more encounter in Europe, at Scotland's Murrayfield Stadium, before heading to the United States.
Erik ten Hag has only added one important face this summer, Mason Mount, and the new No 7 is part of a 26-man team that will face Yorkshire. The United manager has forced to let go of a number of important players who were involved on a regular basis last season.
Anthony Martial has continued to struggle for goals and has been ruled out of the game as he recovers from an injury suffered against Fulham on the last day of the Premier League season. Ten Hag has picked Amad in the attack following his successful loan spell at Sunderland.
Joe Hugill and Shola Shoretire are also named, as is Jadon Sancho, who is still searching for his best form after two years in Manchester. Mount and Fred are the only two mentioned midfielders who would be considered regular first-team starters.
Hannibal Mejbri, who spent last season on loan at Birmingham, was picked with Toby Collyer, Dan Gore, Isak Hansen-Aaroen, Kobbie Mainoo, Maxi Oyedele, and Charlie Savage.
If selected, Ten Hag's first-choice center-back duo of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane can continue their relationship against Leeds. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who impressed at the end of the season, is also chosen with Brandon Williams.
United have just watched David de Gea leave after more than a decade, and their focus is now on signing a new No. 1 goalkeeper, who is expected to be Inter Milan's Andre Onana. For the time being, Tom Heaton might deputize, with Nathan Bishop and Matej Kovar also named. Dean Henderson, who is expected to leave after a loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season due to injury, does not have a place.
Maguire, Luke Shaw, Rashford, Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Anthony Elanga, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, Facundo Pellistri, Alex Telles, and Eric Bailly were all called up by their respective national teams earlier this summer and were never considered for the match against Leeds.
