Man United and Chelsea's transfer blunders are exposed, as is the genuine value of their squads.

Two of the Premier League's top spenders have had their transfer flaws exposed, according to new study, with both Manchester United and Chelsea seeing the worth of their squads fall.

According to new analysis, Chelsea and Manchester United both have squads worth much less than what they paid for them.

Mauricio Pochettino's Blues are ranked dead last in Transfermarkt's analysis of Premier League squad valuations. Chelsea's present crop cost £880 million to build but is only worth £756 million. Mistakes in the market are the reason why owner Todd Boehly is eager to get rid of as much deadwood as possible before the window shuts this summer.

Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly have already left, while Hakim Ziyech may yet depart despite failing an Al-Nassr medical. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has also been designated as surplus to requirements and might be offloaded in the coming weeks.

Chelsea have spent lavishly since Boehly took over as owner, with mega-money signings for the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Mykhaylo Mudryk, and Wesley Fofana thus far failing to demonstrate that the Blues have learned from costly blunders in the past.

Romelu Lukaku is the most famous example of depreciated value currently on the books at Stamford Bridge. Transfermarkt values him at £34 million after being purchased for £98 million in the summer of 2021.

Over at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag is actively looking to sell a handful of marginal players this summer as he attempts to develop a Red Devils squad in his image ahead of his second season in charge.

While Chelsea is frequently scrutinized for extravagance, United's roster cost £830 million to assemble and is only worth £715 million. Some of United's most prominent players, like England's Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho, are to blame for the drop in valuation.

However, not every big-six club has faced the same fate, with Arsenal benefiting from some astute acquisitions. The runners-up from last season cost £572 million to build and are now valued at a record £915 million.
