Ghanaian winger Osman Bukari, who plays for Red Star Belgrade, has been granted citizenship by the Serbian government. He has been a revelation and has been on fire since joining the Serbian top flight.

Following his switch from Belgium side KAA Gent to Serbia last summer, the winger has become a star for both his country and club. The citizenship will enable his club, Red Star Belgrade, to register other foreign nationals since the Ghanaian will now be considered a homegrown player.

The official presentation of his Serbian passport is scheduled to occur when Red Star Belgrade returns from pre-season activities in Russia. The recognition comes as a surprise to him because granting him citizenship speaks a lot for the caliber of person he is.

Osman Bukari holds the Serbian title

Although Bukari will not change his nationality to play for Serbia, this acquisition means he will no longer be considered a foreign player at Red Star Belgrade. The former Accra Lions star joined the Serbian giants on June 21, 2022, in a €3 million deal.

He made an immediate impact, scoring in his debut match against Radniki Nis and endearing himself to the fans at Rajko Mitic Stadium. During the 2022–23 Mozzart Bet Superliga season, Bukari showcased his skills in 29 appearances, netting 12 goals and providing 3 assists. He has also scored 3 goals for his country.

His performances played a vital role in Red Star Belgrade's success and solidified his position as a fan favorite. The granting of Serbian citizenship to Osman Bukari not only recognizes his contributions to Serbian football but also represents his integration into the country's culture.

This milestone is significant for both Bukari and Red Star Belgrade, strengthening their bond and generating excitement for future accomplishments on the field. One thing that makes the recognition amazing is that the citizenship will benefit a lot of Ghanaian players who want to play in Serbia.
