My tribute to the late teacherAma Ata Aidoo - Mahama wrote
"There are two ways of spreading light," says the famous American writer Edith Wharton, "a candle or a mirror that reflects it".
Aunt Ama is the candle, and I am privileged to be one of the millions of mirrors around the world that reflect her own light,as a source, inspired and freely given to the world.
His literary works read like a primer: they are on the lips and firmly in the mind of every boy or girl going to high school. Among his famous works, The Dilemma of a Ghost and Changes are two of my favorites.
Anyone who likes to read them is immediately captivated and thrown into the emotions that only the best books can produce. The first time I had a close relationship with my auntwas when I was vice presidentand I published my book, MyFirst Coup.
I always enjoyed reading her books, but my own book workmade me appreciate AuntieAma even more. Writing my book is a very difficult job because I have to combine my office work with this job. ButAunt Ama is not one to be easily satisfied.
When I invited Ghanaian writers to my house, he not only honored my invitation, but said, "I hope you are on your second book," to which I replied that I am working hard. He did notaccept this, but said, "You are not busy writing."
It has always given me a sense of great pride that he served as part of our political cultureunder the late President Jerry John Rawlings in charge of education.
Being the kind of person that he is, he could not accept that even in these difficult days of economic recovery, we cannotmake education free for all, which made him leave his job. In retrospect, it may be ironic that when Ghana transitioned to its fourth democracy,President Rawlings focused ona new constitution that provided for education, once the necessary resources and structures were in place. , willbe independent - from the primary level, from secondary to tertiary. .
The words of Irving Berlin even sound strong: "the song is over, but the music goes on". MotherAma, your voice is eternal. I can still hear your call to do my second book. You will be glad to know that I started. You lefttoday, but I will finish the second book as you asked.Thank you for your service to our country, your continent and the world. May your journey to earth be filled with peace, loveand light, and may your memory live forever in our hearts.
