Mason Mount makes his debut, Lisandro Martinez returns, Amad starts, and Kobbie Mainoo shines. There was a lot of competition for headlines from Manchester United's first preseason game, but Noam Emeran stole his fair share.
United returned to action in Oslo on Wednesday afternoon, taking on Leeds United in a contest that, understandably, lacked the normal fervour of the two rivals' meetings but still had enough of intrigue. With several players still on international duty, Erik ten Hag had only a handful of senior players to choose from when the game began.
None of them harmed their chances either. Mainoo was the standout, continuing where he left off before an injury halted his season with confidence in the deep-playmaker role. Hannibal was all action and made a terrific tackle to prevent a certain goal from being scored. Amad looked bright after his excellent loan spell at Sunderland, and Fernandez and Forson worked well.
However, the senior squad was unable to break through, although the Under-21s did. In the second half, the starting lineup was totally overhauled, with Brandon Williams serving as the most senior member. Despite the fact that they were still up against seasoned Premier League players, United's youngsters gave it their all.
