Floyd Mayweather's boxing legacy looks safe after footage of the 46-year-old's grandson shadowboxing went viral. Mayweather, who retired in 2017 with an undefeated record, winning 15 major world championships, now looks to pass on the mantle to the younger men in his family.
The American has been spotted previously helping to train his son Koraun in the ring, displaying unparalleled movement in the process. Koraun, just 20, hopes to use his father's in-depth knowledge and advice to navigate his own boxing career. However, the Mayweather name doesn't look to end there, with grandson KJ already taking a keen interest in the sport.
Footage of KJ, just two years old, shadowboxing on the kitchen worktop has been shared by his family on social media and gone viral on Twitter. He was filmed moving his feet, body, and arms in a motion reminiscent of his grandfather. He also tossed in some jabs and anuppercut for good measure.
Just two weeks ago, it was his grandfather throwing the punches when he faced off against John Gotti in his latest post-retirement exhibition fight in Florida. The fight was fueled by endless foul language. Referee Kenny Bayless waved things off in the sixth round before the ring descended into chaos.
Gotti refused to stand down and charged at Mayweather, sparking a mass brawl that spread throughout the FLA Live Arena. Videos emerged of separate fights within the ring, in the crowd, and backstage.
Despite being suspended for six months by the Florida State Boxing Commission, Gotti has suggested a rematch with Mayweather could be on the cards. “We’re in talks right now to do something, so we’ll see where it goes,” Gotti said on the latest episode of The MMA Hour.
“From what I understand, after the fight, it was the most Googled thing in the world. So Floyd is a businessman. Floyd wants to capitalize on that, and he intends to make money. "If they want to do it again, I’m here. And I promise you this time I'll come out guns blazing as soon as that bell rings. We’re fighting now.
“My confidence is through the roof that it will happen,” Gotti continued. “He wants to do it. We’re in talks right now, and hopefully the date gets locked in soon. [Looking at] October.
