Pep Guardiola to keep crunch Riyad Mahrez discusses his future as a Manchester City player. Saudi move
Triple winners Manchester City are bracing themselves for a £30 million deal from Al-Ahli for the Algerian international, albeit no formal bid has yet been filed.
Riyad Mahrez will meet with Pep Guardiola about his future at Manchester City, amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
Triple victors City are expecting a £30 million approach from Al-Ahli for the Algerian international, albeit no formal bid has yet been filed. Guardiola, it is claimed, does not want to lose Mahrez and would prefer the 33-year-old, who has two years left on his deal, to stay.
However, Mahrez might become the latest Premier League player to play in the wealthy Saudi league, where his salary could be double. Mahrez now makes roughly £150,000 per week at City, but a move to the Saudi league could increase his earnings to £450,000 per week.
Winger Mahrez was dissatisfied with his lack of playing time at the close of last season and may feel it's time to move on. Before making a decision, Mahrez wants assurances regarding playing time at City after being an unused replacement in both the Champions League and FA Cup finals.
After being relegated, Al-Ahli are one of the league's four founding teams, along with Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, and Al-Ittihad, that were taken over earlier this month by the country's Public Investment Fund (PIF), which also owns Newcastle United. If he decides to join Al-Ahli, he would join former Chelsea player Edouard Mendy, who joined the Saudi club last month.
If Mahrez, who has 78 goals in 236 City appearances, decides to move to the Middle East, it will be yet another significant coup for the Saudi Super League. Bernardo Silva, another teammate, has also been linked with a move.
And Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is reportedly on the verge of finalizing a transfer after the Knights of Ad-Dahna offered him a whopping £700,000 per week. That would more than treble his present income at Liverpool, where he earns £190,000 per week.
