The political journey of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo, the incumbent Ghanaian president began years ago with support from his beloved wife in fulfillment of the saying that, " behind every successful man is a strong woman. "

Mr. Akufo- Addo started the journey with a pretty, well educated, understanding and lovely woman until nature did what it wanted and separated them from each other.

It has been 30 years since President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo lost his first wife who could be holding the title of a first lady. And in line with culture and tradition, an anniversary will be held to honour her memory.

Madam Eleanor Akosua Akufo- Addo, née Saa Nkansah- Gyamenah, responded to her maker on July 13, 1993 over undisclosed causes.

She was married to Mr Akufo- Addo for years and their union brought fore a beautiful daughter.

Late Eleanor Akufo- Addo was a lawyer and the first Ashanti Regional Manager of DHL

She was from the Botase Royal Family of Asante Mampong and described as beautiful, elegant, gentle and courteous.

Her 30th anniversary will be held at Asante Mampong which is her final resting place.

The ceremony includes a wreath laying at her gravesite followed by a short anniversary service.

The highlight of the event is the commissioning of Eleanor Akufo- Addo Memorial Social Centre, in her honour.

It was after the death of Madam Eleanor Akosua Akufo- Addo that he married his current wife, Rebecca Akufo. Before he got married to the two, he had a divorce with Madam Remi Fani- Kayode.

Akufo- Addo has been Ghana' s president since 2017 and this came after he first ran for president in 2008 and again in 2012, both times as the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).v He lost on both occasions to National Democratic Congress' candidates: John Evans Atta Mills in 2008 and John Dramani Mahama in 2012. After the 2012 general elections, he refused to concede and proceeded to court to challenge the electoral results, but the Supreme Court of Ghana affirmed Mahama' s victory. Subsequently, he won in 2016 and again in 2020.
