A 22-year-old unemployed man, Emmanuel Ahorsu, has been brought before an Adenta Circuit Court on charges of allegedly defiling and impregnating a 13-year-old girl.
During the court session presided over by Awo Balokah on July 4, 2023, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement. He was subsequently granted bail in the sum of GH¢200,000 with three sureties, one of whom must provide proof of ownership of a landed or movable property.
Summary of case
Chief Superintendent of Police (C/Supt.) Patience Mario who presented the facts of the case said the complainant, Afotey Annang, resided in Oyibi while the victim resided in Oyibi-Saasabi (both suburbs of Accra) with her mother.
In January 2023, the complainant returned the victim and her younger brother to their mother after they had spent the vacation period with him. Soon after, the victim's mother noticed that her daughter was pregnant and informed their father. When the victim was questioned about the identity of the person who impregnated her, she mentioned the name of the accused.
Following this revelation, a complaint was lodged at the Oyibi Police Station. A medical report was issued for the examination of the victim, which confirmed that she was five months pregnant.
On May 28, 2023, the accused, Ahorsu, was arrested by the complainant and others and taken to the Oyibi Police Station.
They were subsequently directed to the Adenta branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) for further investigations.
Officials from DOVVSU arrested the accused and during questioning, he admitted to the offence. Ahorsu claimed that the victim had made numerous sexual advances towards him. After conducting investigations, the accused, Ahorsu, was charged and arraigned before court.
When the victim was questioned about the identity of the person who impregnated her, she mentioned the name of the accused.
