The 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup, often known as FIFA World Cup 26[2], will take place in 2026. It is an international men's soccer competition that takes place every four years and is played amongst the national teams of FIFA member countries. The competition will be held in 16 cities throughout three North American nations—Canada, Mexico, and the United States—from an unspecified date in June through July 19, 2026. The event will include three countries hosting it for the first time.Argentina is the reigning world champion.
The number of teams in this competition has increased from 32 to 48 for the first time.[5] In the 68th FIFA Congress's final vote in Moscow, the United 2026 bid prevailed over a challenge from Morocco. It will be the first World Cup to have multiple countries hosting since 2002. Mexico will become the first nation to host or co-host the men's World Cup three times thanks to its prior hosting of the tournaments in 1970 and 1986. Canada will be hosting or co-hosting the men's event for the first time; the United States last held the World Cup in 1994. Immediately following the 2022 edition in Qatar, which was held in November and December of that year, the event will resume its customary northern summer schedule.
