Kofi Amankwa-Manu, Deputy Minister for the Defence Ministry
Kofi Amankwa-Manu, the Deputy Minister for Defence, has claimed that members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have betrayed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo by their criticism of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's management of the economy. This accusation was made by Amankwa-Manu.
The recent words made by Vice President Bawumia on his campaign platform, in which he indicated that he had his own vision for the country, served as the impetus for Amankwa-Manu's comments on the matter.
However, these words were met with backlash from the public, with some people alleging that Bawumia was complicit in the collapse of the economy.
In reaction to this, the deputy minister of defence supported Bawumia by asserting that Ghana was headed in the correct direction prior to the outbreak of the global pandemic.
He emphasised the need for fair judgement and argued that individuals who lauded Bawumia in the past when things were going well should also recognise his efforts when things were challenging. He said this while highlighting the necessity for fair judgement.
"As I mentioned before, Ghana was heading in the right direction before the globe was shaken up by something that none of us had ever encountered before. I have no doubt in my mind that the same people who criticise Bawumia today are the same people who gave him credit when things were going well. But do they give him credit for what he did?
He stated that if they are able to reprimand him in this manner and this time, then they should also give him credit.
Amankwa-Manu went on to emphasise that the responsibility for the affairs of the nation belongs with the collective team, rather than laying all of the burden on the shoulders of a single individual.
It is necessary to place the blame on the group as a whole; it is the team's fault. I am serving in this capacity as the deputy minister. It would be very unjust of me to blame my minister and say that he is completely responsible for everything that goes wrong in this ministry if something were to go wrong in this ministry. If something were to go wrong in this ministry. That is something I will never, ever do since doing so would constitute a betrayal.
"I won't say that they betrayed Bawumia; rather, I believe that they betrayed the party," the speaker said. They are committing treason against the Akufo.-Addo
