According to MayoClinic, peanuts, which are more commonly known as groundnuts, are a popular snack around the world and an ingredient in a wide variety of dishes. Peanuts are also referred to as "groundnuts." In addition to being an excellent source of protein, they include a wide range of other elements, including as vitamins and minerals. However, you should try to limit the amount of groundnuts you consume on a regular basis for a number of different reasons.

1. Allergies.

According to "MedicalNewsToday," one of the primary reasons to limit the amount of groundnuts one consumes on a regular basis is the risk of developing allergies to the food. Groundnuts are one of the most common food allergens, and for some people, even being exposed to a trace amount of them can cause life-threatening allergic reactions.

These reactions can cause a wide variety of adverse effects, ranging from relatively small ones like hives and itching to significantly more serious ones like difficulty breathing, nausea, and vomiting. An allergic reaction to groundnuts can, in the most severe cases, result in anaphylaxis, a condition that has the potential to be lethal and requires immediate medical attention.

2. High in both calories and fat content.

The amount of calories and fat in groundnuts is extremely high, despite the fact that they are an important source of protein. One ounce of groundnuts has around 164 calories and 14 grammes of fat, which is a sizeable portion of the recommended daily requirement for the vast majority of individuals. Consuming groundnuts on a regular basis may lead to an increase in weight gain as well as an increased risk of obesity and the associated health problems, such as diabetes and heart disease.

3. Aflatoxin pollution.

Because some types of fungi are responsible for the production of these toxic substances, there is a high risk of aflatoxin contamination in groundnuts. Exposure to aflatoxins can cause damage to the liver and increase the risk of cancer; these toxins are especially dangerous for young children and people with compromised immune systems. Even though there are preventative measures in place, there is still a danger of aflatoxin contamination associated with the use of groundnuts on a regular basis.

4. A high concentration of phytates.

The body is unable to absorb minerals like calcium, iron, and zinc because groundnuts have a high concentration of phytates, which are molecules that bind to these minerals and prevent their absorption. This can lead to a deficiency in these essential nutrients, which can contribute to a variety of health problems, such as anaemia and compromised immune systems.

5. May increase the risk of developing heart disease.

Groundnuts, in addition to being an excellent source of heart-healthy unsaturated fats, are also a very good supply of the omega-6 fatty acids. Consuming an excessive amount of foods rich in omega-6 fatty acids while not consuming a sufficient amount of foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids may cause an imbalance in the body, which may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
