Inter has communicated to Chelsea their decision to abandon their pursuit of striker Romelu Lukaku, signaling an end to months of negotiations between the two clubs. Previously, the parties had been engaged in protracted discussions with the hope of securing Lukaku's permanent return to Inter, but their efforts ultimately crumbled on Friday evening as talks completely broke down.

Throughout the negotiation process, Inter had shown a willingness to continue engaging with Chelsea due to their belief that Lukaku was solely focused on rejoining their ranks. Lukaku had previously rejected offers from Saudi Arabia and had reportedly conveyed to Inter his single-minded determination to return to San Siro.

However, recent developments have led Inter officials to suspect that Lukaku and his representatives have been in discussions with other clubs, including their fierce rivals Juventus, regarding a potential transfer during the summer window.

While such conversations are customary and legally permissible at this stage of negotiations, Inter has expressed disappointment over the situation, as they had been under the impression that Lukaku's sole interest lay in a reunion with the Nerazzurri. Sources claim that this conviction had originated from the player himself.

Consequently, Inter has formally notified Chelsea of their decision to discontinue their pursuit of Lukaku and has chosen to withdraw from further talks. This decision marks a significant turning point in the transfer saga, leaving Lukaku's future destination uncertain. The sudden shift in Inter's position raises questions about the player's intentions and potential suitors, as other clubs now emerge as potential contenders for his signature.

The breakdown in negotiations between Inter and Chelsea serves as a reminder of the complex and unpredictable nature of transfer dealings in the world of football. As the summer transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen which club will ultimately secure the services of the highly sought-after striker, Romelu Lukaku.

Chelsea had originally planned for Lukaku to return for pre-season last week, but they postponed his comeback until Monday, hoping to finalize a deal to sell him before his return was necessary. However, Lukaku is now expected to return to Cobham on Monday, although Chelsea has no intentions of including him in their pre-season tour of the United States.

Instead, Lukaku is considering all his options. There have been discussions with Juventus regarding a potential summer transfer, and offers from Saudi Arabia are still on the table, despite Lukaku's initial hesitance to consider them.

Sources within Chelsea still believe that Inter Milan could revive their interest in Lukaku if they can rebuild their relationship with the player, although that outcome appears unlikely at the moment.
