George Afriyie, who served as the former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has voiced his doubts about a plan that was recently announced by the current President of the GFA, Kurt Okraku, to give thirty buses for use in the football ecosystem.

Okraku announced at the 29th congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), which was held in Kumasi, that the GFA intends to invest in the game by purchasing 30 new buses. He made it clear that the teams that would be receiving benefits would be those from Division One as well as the women's club teams.

"We are going to invest thirty buses into the football ecosystem in Ghana. Teams competing in Division One and women's club teams will be in the best position to capitalise on the opportunities presented by this plan, which will be a game-changer. He said.

George Afriyie, who has stated his desire to run against Kurt Okraku in the forthcoming elections for the presidency of the GFA, is of the opinion that the statement was nothing more than a tactic for running the campaign.

After the congress was over, Afriyie gave a statement to the press in which he brought up the fact that there is no plan in place to put the planned investment into action or provide the buses that were promised.

He characterised the announcement as nothing more than hollow promises made in the sake of gaining support for the next elections. Afriyie made a snide remark in which he implied that if Okraku plans to give buses, he might as well think about giving aeroplanes.

He was critical of the ambiguous promise to provide buses, which did not explain who would get them or how they would be acquired. These assertions, in his opinion, were nothing more than false promises made during an election year; he likened them to declaring that he would give away aeroplanes. Instead of being broad and lacking in specificity, he believes that promises ought to be backed up by a well-thought-out strategy or course of action.

His question was, "Which of his earlier promises have been fulfilled?," and he was looking for an answer. "When you provide hazy guarantees that you will provide buses, it's not. He has stated it since it is an election year, and if that is how it should be said, then I will hand out planes (Aeroplanes), if that is how it should be said. Who and who will be provided, and how they will obtain it, we do not know. These are hazy assurances at best. "Afriyie concluded by stating that promises ought to be accompanied by a plan or an action plan rather than being detailed.

Afriyie's comments reveal his scepticism regarding the practicability and sincerity of Okraku's project. He emphasises the necessity for a concrete plan and implementation strategy rather than only making campaign promises, which reflects his scepticism regarding the initiative.
