A year ago
A 21-year-old lady was detained by the Jasikan Police Department for reportedly abandoning her day-old baby in a pit latrine.
She was apprehended with an elderly woman, thought to be her mother, who is accused of assisting the 21-year-old in committing the crime.
On Friday, May 27, 2022, the incident is said to have occurred.
Residents were aware of the loss of the day-old baby due to their alertness and organized a search party after confronting the two the baby's mother and an older woman.
They then escorted them to the hole, where the baby had been discovered lifeless.
The baby's body was taken to the Jasikan Hospital mortuary and deposited there.
In other news, Elmina police have detained three suspects who attacked Benya FM, an Elmina-based radio station, assaulted a live show presenter, and vandalized station property.
Opare Aikins was apprehended in a car on the Cape Coast-Takoradi route, while the other two suspects, Michelle Asabre, 25, and Anthony Eshun, 32, were apprehended afterwards.

Unknown assailants attacked the radio station in Elmina on Monday.
According to sources, the radio station was criticizing the lack of premix gasoline and how individuals who were not fisherman were given the product at the expense of those who needed it.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of muscularly built guys invaded the station in the middle of the conversation, disturbed it, took down some equipment, and assaulted the host, Blessing Eshun.
The suspects acknowledged to the crimes after being interrogated by the police, stating they went to confront the radio presenter who was on air at the station because he mentioned their names during the show.

They claimed that over the radio, the broadcaster named their names and accused them of not having canoes, and that they were given premix fuel meant for Elmina fishermen.
The three individuals have been charged with assault and destruction of station property and will appear in court.
Meanwhile, Solomon Ebo Appiah, the MCE of the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Municipal Assembly, has distanced himself from the acts.
Despite the fact that he knows the accused, he claims they are not his "boys," as the presenter claims.
