The training of the Media Foundation West Africa (MFWA) was expected to lead to an increase in the number of citizens since it passed in 2019. The Media Foundation Facilitator, Adizatu Moro Maiga, at the opening of the training, said that the Foundation, with financialsupport from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ghana, hopes to teach Ghanaians more about rightsGhana has laws and information systems.
"It is believed that awareness raising campaigns will make the public more interested in what is happening in their countryand hold those responsible." The law, which has been in place for two decades, will give followers the power to hold local leaders to account.
Mrs. Maiga said the overall objective is to increase public awareness and use of the rightto information law. The Act contains several sections on how to file, appeals procedures,and waivers, among others.
Ms. Maiga also said that the money dedicated to the public can be obtained from the Foundation to make such requests for information from public and private companies that have received government funding for projects. People with disabilities have the right to petition for free.
