Man United reach an agreement to sign Onana for £43m

According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United has reached an agreement with Inter Milan to secure the services of goalkeeper Andre Onana. The Cameroonian shot-stopper has reportedly agreed to personal terms and is expected to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with the option for another year.

Inter Milan is believed to be satisfied with a fee of approximately £43 million, including potential add-ons, for Onana. The completion of the deal is set to be announced by Manchester United on Monday, with efforts underway to process Onana's visa so that he can join the team on their tour to the United States on Wednesday. If all goes as planned, the 27-year-old goalkeeper could make his debut for United against Arsenal in New Jersey on Saturday, with further matches against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund also on the schedule.

Manchester United has been in search of a new number one goalkeeper since deciding not to extend David de Gea's contract after his 12-year stint at the club. Manager Erik ten Hag has emphasized the need for a goalkeeper who excels with the ball at his feet, leading to the pursuit of Andre Onana. Onana's time playing under Ten Hag at Ajax, prior to his move to Inter last summer, has honed his abilities in this regard.

During his solitary season with Inter Milan, Onana made 41 appearances across all competitions. His contributions were crucial as the team won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana, while also reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League. The acquisition of Onana will push Manchester United's summer spending beyond the £100 million mark, following the earlier signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea for £60 million.

With the goalkeeper situation seemingly resolved, Manchester United will now intensify their efforts to secure a new striker. Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta is said to be their primary target for this position. Furthermore, Dean Henderson, the current United goalkeeper, is expected to join Nottingham Forest in a deal worth up to £20 million once the Onana transfer is finalized. This decision comes after Tom Heaton signed a one-year contract extension, securing his role as the backup goalkeeper at Old Trafford.

As the news of Andre Onana's imminent arrival at Manchester United spreads, fans will eagerly anticipate his impact in bolstering the team's defense. The goalkeeper position is a crucial one, and with Onana's abilities and experience, there is optimism that he will seamlessly fill the void left by David de Gea. United's summer spending spree demonstrates their ambition to strengthen the squad and compete at the highest level in the upcoming season.
