The payment occurred exactly one week before the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) outlet revealed that Hoffman paid at least one visit to Epstein’s private Caribbean island, Little St. James, which is part of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
According to the report, Hoffman and Epstein intended to return to the island in November 2014 before traveling to Boston. The purpose of the scheduled travel is unknown, but the investigation also indicated that Hoffman was intended to stay at Epstein’s Manhattan home in December 2014 after arriving late in New York City.
Hoffman also made the news last month after Biden attended a fundraiser that he organized on behalf of the super PAC at Shannon Hunt-Scott and Kevin Scott’s private residence in Los Gatos, California.
In May, Hoffman told the WSJ that his affiliation with Epstein “helped his reputation and thus delayed justice for his survivors.”
“My last interaction with Epstein was in 2015. Still, by agreeing to participate in any fundraising activity where Epstein was present, I helped to repair his reputation and perpetuate injustice,” Hoffman said in 2019. “For this, I am deeply regretful.”
Many contended that Hoffman’s apology came much too late, when he had already been caught and needed to give a statement in order to avoid more negative press.
In 2015, he invited Epstein to a Silicon Valley dinner alongside a wide range of leaders from within the tech industry.
In September of that year, Hoffman attended a state dinner at the White House thrown by then-Vice President Biden in honor of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Hoffman’s money also supports groups that are not required by law to record their fundraising and typically operate in the shadows, according to a report by Fox News.
In 2018, Hoffman fell for the left-wing Russian collusion conspiracy theory, and he was obliged to deliver an apology for backing an organization that falsely claimed that the Russian government was supporting Alabama Republican Roy Moore in a 2017 special Senate selection.
