Devaluation of the Cedi: We will answer you - Edudzi warns the government
National Democratic Congress (NDC) member Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe has accused the New Patriotic Party of controlling Ghana's economy.
According to him, the country'seconomy has taken a major hitsince the NPP took over the national affairs in 2017. He said the exchange rate at that time was four cedis to the dollar, but now the skyrocketing rate is unbelievable.
Currently, the cedi sells for 12 GH¢ to the dollar at various exchange offices. For this reason, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe said that Ghanaians will continue to hold the government in their hands.
Speaking on TV3's Big Issue on Monday July 17, 2023, he said: "Today's record, as Ken Agyapong saw, you are dealing with a 42% inflation rate, the exchange rate is one dollar for Twelve cedis, you are out of one. four dollars and four cedis, that's your record.
"...We're going to hold you accountable and we're not here to please anyone," he said. Speaking in the same vein, NPP presidential candidate Kennedy Agyapong during his press tour in Kintampo on Sunday, July 16, 2023, criticized the government for its closure of public funds.
He said that the value of the cedi has fallen significantly. Citing examples to support his claim, he said he had $40 million cedi equivalent in March last year, but by August 2022 the value had dropped to $16 million due to the devaluationof the cedi.
