We have never retained the role of land guards - the police

The Ghanaian police are the latest to deny allegations that they hired a notorious securityguard to recover and secure his property.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 17, the officials said that "this claim is false, baseless and baseless, and should be treated with the contempt it deserves."

According to them, "The police do not use the services of land protectors to recover or protect their land".

He said
that on the contrary, in recent times, the Service has promoted anti-Ground Guard activities in the communities of workers affected by these Ground Guards. They added that this new effort will not stop until the perpetrators of these crimes are brought to justice.

"We want
to assure the public that the police service, in collaboration with other security agencies, continues to strive to uphold the rule of law and ensure public safety at all times; and we will continue counting on the support of the good people of Ghana in this,” part of the statement asserted. The Director of Lands and Natural Resources, ProfessorPatrick Agbesinyale, on MondayJuly 10, during a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Lands and Forests alleged that the government has putthe work of the land guard to use recover and protect the damaged states. down. .

The Ghanaian army and the Ghanaian police have beenaccused of employing a notorious security guard known as 'Gyato' to reclaim their landthat has been invaded. Professor Patrick Agbesinyale said the conservation agencythen gave the conservationists some parts of the reclaimed land as their reward. "Gyato" will also perform similar functions for the government according to ProfessorAgbesinyale. "So he [Gyato] recently acquired land and inthat land we gave him 50 acres out of 6,000 as payment for all his expenses. So he has the right to sell the $50. If he sells it, the noise is everywhere.

"He doesn't
sell it. He gives it topeople to raise so he can get his share. "I can give you a long list of lands that Gyato (land guards) claimed for us as the Ghanaian army and the Ghana police, their lands that were invaded, they were taken back by Gyato," he said.

According to him, the decision not to use the police or the military to protect and recover the land was to avoid public humiliation. "I think the idea isthat every time the machine of the government; we see the police, the army, etc., going there to take the land, you know the chaos and thebacklash that the government gets.

"So
what they're doing is you're going to set up someone like that, and the government is going to really hide behind himso he can take back government land."

This is despite the passing of the Vigilance and Related Offenses Act 2019 (Act 999) which clearly outlaws such practices.

However, the government, through the Ministry of Lands, and the Ghanaian military have all denied the allegations
