The Assin North by elections came off last month and the aftermath of the elections proved that the constituents preferred to maintain James Gyakye Quayson as their MP. James Quayson won with a little over 57% compared to what Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party got. This win for the National Democratic Congress meant that Parliament is once again in a hung parliament with only the MP for Fomena separating the two biggest political parties.
Paul Adom Otchere, a journalist with Metro TV and board chair of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, has opened up on a nasty situation that happened while he was on assignment to cover the Assin North by election. Paul was reacting to the current leaked tape regarding Dampare when he noted that the Police Service is divided and this impasse needs to be solved.
Paul explained that while on his way to Assin North to cover the elections he was arrested for overspeeding. He noted that he was approached by 2 female officers who acted rude towards him. The annoying part was that he heard another police man saying that he, Paul is one of Dampare' s associates.
Paul added that he didn' t resist the arrest but went to the Police station and gave his statement. His car was seized and when he was released he went straight to cover the elections. According to Paul he knew he was guilty and so he didn' t complain after he was charged with the misdemeanor offence.
Paul used this arrest scenario to illustrate that all isn' t well in the Police service because the police he met didn' t speak well of Dampare. Paul called on the Minister of Interior to investigate the hierarchy of the Police. In a related scenario, Paul revealed an interview he had with one of the voices captured in the leaked audio where he was told that Dampare had allegedly created a special unit who act arbitrarily to the conduct of police men.
