The Ghana Mining Expo is a forum tailored to ensure sustainable mineral development and the well-being Of Mining Communities.

I delivered a welcome address at the 4th Edition of Ghana Mining Week. This was held on July 13–15, 2023, in Takoradi. An inherent component of our mining activities, ensuring judicious, ethical, responsible and sustainable exploration, extraction, production and refining of our mineral resources. It also has an impact on the development of the affected communities.

The event assembled policymakers, industry players, and other relevant stakeholders whose utmost interest is not only a vibrant mining sector but, more importantly, a sustainable sector and a prosperous host of communities.

The theme of the event was "Sustainable Mineral Resource Development and Well-Being of Mining Communities". In line with the motif, the 2023 Ghana Mining Expo sought the collaboration of all stakeholders to analyze the state of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of mining companies in Ghana, their impact on host communities, and the best ways to regulate mining companies to commit to offering transformational CSR interventions as a means of creating generational prosperity for the mining communities.

I announced that, as part of the gains consolidated from the Ghana Mining Expo initiatives, the WRCC and the Ghana Gold Expo Foundation have secured a partnership deal on CSR with Oxford University in the UK.

The object is to set up a leadership and workshop program to offer technical assistance to corporate institutions in their CSR interventions. I reported that five top mining companies enrolled in the program. In addition, ten small-scale mining companies and ten Chiefs are to undergo training on CSR scope at Oxford University in September 2023.

I reiterate that, as Mining Week has countlessly echoed over the years, sustainable mineral development requires a holistic approach encompassing responsible mining practices, environmental stewardship, and mining companies empowerment. It necessitates a strong partnership between government, industry, civil society, and local communities.

I assure you that, together, we can create a mining sector that generates wealth and fosters social inclusivity, environmental protection, sustainable livelihoods and local prosperity.
