What the Minority Showed Is Hypocrisy– the Majority Minority in Parliament The Minority Caucus has been skipping sessions in order to provide James Gyakye Quayson, the member of parliament for Assin North, their support once again, which has resulted in the session of Parliament being left in an undetermined state.
On July 4, the day that James Gyakye Quayson took office as president, members of the opposition Caucus made public their decision to boycott all parliamentary proceedings during the time that James Gyakye Quayson was on trial.
After the members made good on their threats and impeded the progress of legislative business, the Speaker of the House, Alban Bagbin, issued a warning to the Caucus that the action is against the Standing Orders of the House and advised them to refrain from taking it.
In addition, members of the general public and even some parliamentarians have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Caucus' continued absence from Parliament in order to show support for one of its members who is currently facing criminal charges.
The Caucus has been asked to reconsider its decision a number of times, but it is certain that it would not do so unless the criminal investigation that is being conducted against one of its members, James Gyakye Quayson, is dropped.
However, despite the fact that today's session of Parliament has not taken place, the Minority in Parliament is currently debating the significance of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) ever since it was established.
The organisation asserted that the Office of the Special Prosecutor has not been successful in bringing a single instance of corruption to trial in order to secure a sentence of punishment. In light of the large number of investigative bodies already present in the country, the Minority Chief Whip, Governs Agbodza, asserted that the position was unnecessary and unnecessary given the current state of affairs.
"There are those among us who are of the opinion that the office was superfluous because of the EOCO, the CID, and the financial crime unit. The combined efforts of all of those offices should produce satisfactory results. Despite this, the administration is adamant that the OSP will take on a greater number of positions.
"Are you aware that at this very now, they have not been able to successfully prosecute even a single case, and nobody has been punished? Therefore, the question that needs to be answered is, how helpful is that office? Therefore, what we are arguing is that it was possible for other people to have done the same thing.
Mr. Agbodza requested payment of the government's $4 billion debt owed to the District Assemblies Common Fund prior to the presentation of the mid-year budget review by the finance minister on July 25. This was done in advance of the presentation of the review by the government.
When they are transferred to the assemblies, these monies become a part of the essential interventions that the assemblies make in our various communities. Either it is used to help the district health directorate in order to provide areas for the district health directorate to have a CHIPS compound or it is used to either fix the roof of the only basic school in your hometown or it is used to support the district health directorate.
"Or it's supposed to be used to support people who need critical health or even the feeder roads to be able to grid or reshape some of the roads, while we wait for some of the major interventions by either feeder roads or highways and other things," she said. "Or it's supposed to be used to support people who need critical health."
He went on to say that the government currently owes the district assembly more than GH4 billion of these funds, and he emphasised that because the vast majority of people had already paid their taxes, the law mandated that the government set aside 5% of the money it had previously taken from the populace and give it to the assemblies. He added that the law also required the government to give the assemblies 5% of the money it had previously taken from the populace.
According to the Minister of Finance, the presentation of the budget will take place on July 25. Before the budget is finalised, it will be of great assistance if the minister provides certain releases to the administration of the common fund, which will then be transmitted further to the various district assemblies. It will lend a far deeper level of significance to the presentation.
