Frema Osei Opare is the Chief of Staff.
It has been claimed that the Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Osei Opare, has begun a covert lobbying effort in the hopes of being considered as the Vice Presidential nominee of the New Patriotic Party. She plans to use all means required to achieve this goal.
The very first woman to hold the position of Chief of Staff is throwing her support behind the Mahamudu Bawumia campaign in the hopes that she would be seriously considered for the position of Number 2 in the event that Dr. Bawumia is chosen by the delegates on November 4th, 2023.
It has been reported that the Chief of Staff has been meeting with major interest groups that have a say on the topic in order to make a case for herself, and she is also alleged to have launched underground efforts in order to secure the slot when it comes due.
The Chief of Staff has some detractors who believe it is time for her to "stay out of the game" and retire with Akufo-Addo. Some people believe that because she has been the "most ineffective Chief of Staff since 1992," she is to blame for the difficulties that the Akufo-Addo government is experiencing.
However, her supporters refer to the fact that she originates from the Ashanti Region and that she has the potential to generate finances to support Bawumia's bid.
As a result, the Chief of Staff is competing against several other prominent candidates for the position of running mate. These candidates include Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister for Communication, and Mathew Opoku Prempeh, whose name has gotten wider traction as a potential running partner.
Isaac Osei and Joe Osei Owusu, both members of parliament for the Bekwai constituency, are also among the others.
Osei Kyei Mensu Bonsu, who was rumoured to be interested in the position, has shifted his attention away from the running mate position and towards the position of Speaker of Parliament.
Frema Osei Opare is from a politically influential family and is originally from the town of Wiamoase, which is located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
She received her secondary education at St. Monica's School in Mampong-Ashanti. She attended the University of Ghana and received her bachelor's degree in Home Science there. After that, she went on to earn a master's degree in Food Science from the University of Guelph. Between the years 1976 and 1982, Frema held the position of Head of Department in the Department of Home Science at the University of Ghana, where she had previously worked as a lecturer. In addition, she has worked with the United Nations in various roles on the Women in Fisheries initiative in the countries of Uganda, Ethiopia, the Congo, and Namibia. Between the years of 2005 and 2008, Frema held the position of Deputy Minister for Manpower, Youth, and Employment in the government of President John Agyekum Kufuor. She also held the position of Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency for a total of two terms, beginning in 2005 and ending in 2013, while running on the New Patriotic Party ticket.
