Man United fans are all saying the same thing about Matej Kovar after first-half showing against Lyon

Manchester United fans said the same thing about Matej Kovar when they took aim at David de Gea after half-time against Lyon.

United host Lyon at Murrayfield Stadium in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday after beating Leeds United 2-0 in Oslo last week.

Erik ten Hag sent Kovar into the middle of goal after the goalkeeper appeared in the second half against Leeds.

And the Czech goalkeeper impressed Man United fans online when they threw stones at former player De Gea.

People like the 23-year-old's distribution in the back and claim the Reds will win trophies if he starts with the Spaniard. One Twitter user wrote:

"Kovar is much better than De Gea, just kidding."

A second tweet:

"It's funny how coaches can develop someone as calm on the ball as Kovar, but still watch De Gea week in, week out and think he's fine."

The third added:

"It's only been pre-season and I don't want to hate De Gea, but we played much better defensively with Kovar."

The fourth said:

"Kovar has put in more accurate passes in pre-season than De Gea in his 12 years. I'm just saying."

Fifth comment:

"Kovar is far ahead of De Gea by foot."

Another person wrote:

"We could have won three titles with Kovar instead of De Gea."

Barcelona have started adding a 'fear clause' to the contracts of players on loan in recent seasons.

Budding prospects who have graduated from the club's renowned youth academy often spend time away from the club before returning to the Catalan giants.

In an effort to stay one step ahead of the game, Barca have introduced a 'fear clause' for players on loan.

According to the terms, players on loan from Barca are not allowed to face the host club in La Liga or Copa del Rey during the season.

The 'fear clause' caused Nico Gonzalez and Ez Abde to lose to Valencia and Osasuna respectively last season.

Such is the case for Pablo Torre, 20, who completed his move to Girona on Tuesday on loan, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

He made 13 appearances for Barca in all competitions last season and on terms he will not be able to play against Barca in the 2023/24 season.

Meanwhile, Barca continues to search for new talent, having signed Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez and Oriol Romeu.

Manchester City star Bernardo Silva and Bayern Munich talisman Joshua Kimmich have been closely linked with a move to Camp Nou, with Xavi asking for more reinforcements ahead of the new season. Speaking earlier this month, he said:

"We are still the missing pieces, we can't deceive the fans. I think we can strengthen more, but the technical staff is working very hard, the president is did a very good job."

"We have to strengthen ourselves, the president knows it, Mateu [Alemany] knows it, we mustn't deceive anyone. The market will be long, it's open until August 31 and we I have to compete as much as I can."
