The Judicial Service Staff Association (JUSAG) and members of the lower bench are both eligible for new salary structures and allowances, both of which have been given the green light by the government for implementation.
This month sees the adoption of the revised salary structure going into force.
The claims were made in a statement that was released and signed by Mr. Samuel Afotey Otu, who is the National President of JUSAG.
According to the statement, "We are reassured by the letter of her Ladyship Honourable Chief Justice dated July 13, which confirms that his Excellency the President of Ghana has approved the new salary structure, and implementation will be done in the month of July 2023,"
According to the statement, the group is also ecstatic about Chief Justice Torkornoo's commitment to ensuring the passing into law of a Judicial Service Regulation (Constitutional Instrument) in accordance with Article 158 (2), 159.
"We hope that comprehensive work on the CI will bring an end to the biennial strikes that are associated with salary review." According to a statement released by the association, "We shall work with her (Chief Justice Torkornoo) and management to rebrand the Judicial Service and build upon the successes chalked up by the Judiciary and Judicial Service over the years."
"We would also like to take this opportunity to extend our congratulations to His Excellency the President of Ghana, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Labour and Employment Relations, the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, the Judicial Council, and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission for the journey that has been taken thus far.
We would like to express our gratitude to the honourable workers of the Judicial Service for their perseverance and support throughout the process.
Due to the fact that its members have not been provided with a revised compensation structure, JUSAG has announced that it would begin a strike that will last indefinitely across the country on May 24, 2023.
However, after attending negotiations with officials from the administration beginning on May 29, 2023, it decided to call off the strike. —GNA
