Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to use Adidas shin pads during Al Nassr's heavy loss. The Portuguese star has been sponsored by rival Nike for two years.

Cristiano Ronaldo risks a breach of his Nike contract after appearing to wear Adidas shin pads.  The 38-year-old marked his first pre-season appearance as Al Nassar were thumped 5-0 by LaLiga side Celta Vigo on Monday.

Ronaldo played the first 45 minutes and watched the second half, where all five goals were scored, from the stands.

However, the Portuguese star generated controversy as he appeared to use Adidas shin pads while under contract with rival Nike.

Ronaldo has been contracted to Nike since the early stages of his career in 2003 and is on a £147 million, 10-year deal with the American giants.

He is one of Nike's biggest athletes and has appeared in multiple TV ads promoting the brand's boots. Ronaldo usually sports personalized shin pads, having appeared to have a picture of his face next to the Portugal national team crest during his second spell with Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo's manager, Al Nassr, announced earlier this month that Nike would be their upcoming kit manufacturer.

The Saudi Arabian club previously had their kits made by Nike between 1997 and 2001 and, in a second stint, between 2010 and 2012. The change might not mark a huge visual departure from their current kit design, as their current manufacturer, Arabic giants Duneus, took direct inspiration from Nike style.

Fans will have their first chance to see the strip in action when the Riyadh-based outfit tests itself against PSG and Inter Milan on a tour of Japan next week.

If all is said and done, this will mean that the Portuguese star will face some legal and commercial issues. There will also be mistrust from other minor brands that sponsor him. Ronaldo has become the face of many products ranging from sports wear, perfumes, foods, electronic gadgets, automobiles, etc.
