Barcelona set to  miss out on right-back target as Premier League side enter pole position

During the current summer transfer window, Barcelona has been actively seeking to strengthen their right-back position. Manager Xavi Hernandez is eager to secure a new option as the club currently relies on makeshift and fringe players like Jules Kounde, Sergi Roberto, and Sergino Dest for that role.

One of their primary targets for the position has been Ivan Fresneda, an 18-year-old talent who is expected to depart Real Valladolid following their relegation. Barcelona expressed interest in signing him, but the pursuit was put on hold a few weeks ago. Unfortunately for Barcelona, it now appears that their hopes of acquiring Fresneda have been dashed, as reports suggest that he is on the verge of joining AFC Bournemouth.

The English Premier League club has offered €17 million for Fresneda, which falls just short of his release clause of €20 million. The young player seems keen on the move, and the presence of head coach Andoni Iraola, who previously managed Rayo Vallecano, is believed to be a significant factor in his decision.

With Fresneda likely heading to AFC Bournemouth, Barcelona will need to go back to the drawing board in their quest for a new right-back. Given the financial challenges faced by the club, securing their top targets is expected to be a daunting task.

Barcelona's pursuit of reinforcements comes amidst their ongoing financial struggles, which have limited their spending power in the transfer market. As a result, securing a top-quality right-back to meet Xavi's requirements will prove to be a significant challenge.

As the transfer window progresses, Barcelona will need to explore alternative options and potential signings to bolster their squad for the upcoming season. Strengthening the right-back position remains a priority, and the club's management and coaching staff will be hard at work to identify suitable candidates within their budget constraints.
