Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Minority Leader, is requesting "thorough" and "independent" investigations into the theft of $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Cedis that remain hidden from the home of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, by two house helpers. The money was taken from the residence of the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources.
Patience Botwe and Sarah Agyei, who were both working as househelps at the time of the crime, are currently on trial for their roles in the incident. The issue was brought to light on Thursday, July 20, when the matter was heard at an Accra Circuit Court.
The members of the Minority have joined the debate and are demanding that the Minister recuse themselves from the ongoing probes.
"We cannot overlook such a serious development that has the potential to undermine the very principles of probity, accountability, and transparency in our governance," the Minority Leader stated in an email on Friday, July 21.
"Given the scope and seriousness of this matter, it is absolutely necessary for there to be an investigation launched right once that is conducted in an objective manner in order to determine the origin of these monies and whether or not they are legal.
