Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is a Ghanaian economist and former central banker who serves as the 5th Vice President of Ghana in the 4th Ghanaian Republic. He assumed office on 7 January 2017 as Vice President of Ghana.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received in audience at the Jubilee House, H. E. AmbSamate, AU Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, and AU Advocacy Mission and her entourage.
The team came to ask for Ghana’s support on the rectification of the protocol on free movement to fastrack the integration of the African continent. We have to keep on working hard to achieve an important object when it comes to free movement for Africa.
H. E Minata also commended Ghana’s strides in the implementation of the seven aspirations of the Commission.
On my part, I restated Ghana’s leading role in Pan-Africanism and the idea of the integration of the African continent. It is the strategic framework for delivering on Africa's goal for inclusive and sustainable development and is to concrete manifestation of the Pan-African drive.
The artificial barriers inhibit the full potential of the continent and we must work to remove those barriers. The African continent is experiencing a rise in drug trafficking and transnational organized crime such as trafficking in human. Truly exemplary teamwork is paving the way for positive change.
Amidst security concerns, I emphasized the need for the adoption of digital identification systems to ensure that free movement throughout the continent is done safely. The protocol was the codification of the commitment to free movement made by African countries in declaring the establishment of the the African Economic community. Free movement is also one key goal for Africa's agenda.
Africa will soon become one of the greatest in the world because we are keeping a knee eye on free movement policy and it will be done by 2063.
