In Accra’s High Court, the case brought by former National Service Person, Deborah Sayram Adablah, against First Atlantic Bank and its former Chief Finance Officer, Ernest Kwasi Nimako, on allegations of sexual harassment, was dismissed. The presiding judge, Justice Olivia Obeng Owusu, also ordered Miss Adablah to compensate the bank with ¢6,000.
Initially, Deborah Seyram Adablah filed a lawsuit on Monday, January 23, 2023, claiming that Ernest Kwasi Nimako, whom she refers to as her “sugar daddy,” made several promises to her. According to the plaintiff, Nimako agreed to buy her a car, cover her accommodation expenses for three years, provide a monthly stipend of GH¢3,000, marry her after divorcing his wife, and offer a lump sum to start a business.
However, the plaintiff alleges that Nimako took back the car, which was initially registered in his name, depriving her of its use after just a year. Additionally, he only paid for one year of accommodation despite promising three years.
Deborah seeks a court order for the “sugar daddy” to transfer the car’s title to her and return the vehicle to her possession. She also asks the court to order Nimako to pay the promised lump sum for her business venture. Furthermore, she wants the court to compel Nimako to pay the outstanding two years’ accommodation as agreed.
Another relief she is seeking is for the court to order Nimako to cover her medical expenses resulting from a “side effect of a family planning treatment” that he advised her to undergo to prevent pregnancy.
On June 15, 2023, Deborah Adablah’s lawyers filed a motion to challenge the court’s ruling and to request preservation of a disputed vehicle, which was part of the subject matter.
Additionally, lawyers representing Kwasi Nimako filed a contempt case against Deborah Adablah for making certain publications after the court had barred such actions. The bank’s lawyers had requested ¢50,000, but the plaintiff offered ¢5,000 instead. Following the lawsuit, the bank filed a motion to have its name removed from the case, which was granted by the court on Friday, July 21, 2023.
The case focused on allegations of sexual harassment made by Miss Adablah against Kwasi Nimako, the former Chief Finance Officer, and the bank. The bank sought to have specific paragraphs in the writ dismissed, claiming they lacked reasonable cause of action.
The court’s ruling on the substantive case concerningthecase of sexual harassment allegations leveled against Kwasi Nimako will be addressed separately after dealing with the preliminary application concerning the bank’s involvement in the lawsuit.
