A shocking case has emerged, involving an 18- year- old house help, Patience Botwe, who stands accused of stealing millions of Ghana Cedis and personal items from the home of the esteemed Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour.
Alongside her alleged accomplice, former house help Sarah Agyei, Patience is now facing charges of theft and illegal possession of stolen property in front of an Accra Circuit Court.
The thefts reportedly took place between July and October 2022, while Patience was employed as a house help for the prominent couple. Acting in collusion with Sarah, a former employee of the complainants, Patience is alleged to have carried out a series of audacious thefts during her tenure.
The crimes came to light when Mr. Kuffour returned from a trip and unexpectedly discovered Patience in their bedroom, which she had accessed using a duplicate key. Promptly reporting the matter to the police, the couple' s action led to Patience' s arrest, though she was later released on police enquiry bail. Instead of cooperating with authorities, Patience and her boyfriend, Benjamin, fled to Tamale, where they rented a luxurious 3- bedroom apartment for a staggering GH¢105, 600, attracting the attention of the police who were tracking them.
A spot search of the apartment led law enforcement officers to discover a significant sum of US$40, 000 and GH¢72, 619. 70, believed to be part of the stolen monies. During the investigation, Patience' s alleged extravagant spending habits were brought to light.
The accused teenager reportedly splurged on a lavish 3- bedroom house in Amrahia, estimated to be worth US$70, 000. The house is filled with top- of- the- line items, including a double- decker refrigerator, water dispenser, television set, washing machine, and chest cooler, among others.
In addition to her personal indulgences, Patience displayed her affection for Benjamin by gifting him a luxurious Hyundai Elantra worth GH¢80, 000. However, it is alleged that Benjamin later sold the car to purchase a Honda Civic.
Patience also extended financial assistance to her family and ex- boyfriend, contributing GH¢50, 000 to her father and an astounding GH¢1 million to Malik, her former boyfriend.
As the investigation unfolds, Patience, along with her alleged boyfriends and father, has been remanded into lawful custody. The court proceedings are expected to shed further light on the extent of the stolen funds and the involvement of all parties in this audacious theft case that has sent shockwaves through Ghanaian society.
