ALAN KYEREMATEN SET TO RESIGN AFTER PARTY LEADERS DID THE UNTHINKABLE TO PEOPLE IN PRESIDENTIAL RACE

In a recent announcement, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed its decision to uphold the decentralized voting process for the forthcoming Presidential primary. The party' s leadership has chosen to stick with the method previously used in 2014 during the tenure of former General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.

While nine out of ten presidential aspirants submitted a petition urging the party to reconsider the decentralized voting system for the super delegates conference, the party leadership has found no compelling reasons to deviate from the successful system employed in 2014. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the leading candidate and was the only one of the ten aspirants who did not support the decentralized voting approach.

The decentralized voting process for the super delegates conference will be instrumental in narrowing down the list of ten aspirants to five for the main conference to elect a flagbearer in November 2023. The party believes that this approach promotes transparency, inclusivity, and broad participation among its members, reflecting its commitment to democratic values.

During the 2014 Presidential primary, the decentralized voting procedure received praise from various party figures, including Kwabena Agyepong and prominent Presidential aspirants such as Alan Kyerematen, Joe Ghatey, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, and Francis Adai Nimo.

Party officials emphasized the benefits of sticking to a tried- and- tested method and highlighted the positive feedback received during the 2014 primary. The decentralized voting procedure was commended for accommodating diverse opinions and ensuring a fair representation of the party' s collective will.

The NPP will now focus on organizing the logistics for the primary election, with party leaders expressing confidence in the success of the decentralized voting approach and anticipating a well- received outcome.

However, Richard Nyamah, the spokesperson for the Alan Kyeremanten campaign team, has issued a warning against proceeding with a centralized super delegates election. He accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo and his government of advocating for a decentralized election to potentially manipulate the outcome in favor of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, whom he referred to as the ' establishment' candidate. Nyamah argued that organizing the super delegates election at the regional level holds no economic or logistical justification and may lead to division within the party.

With the stage now set for a competitive race, candidates in the NPP are gearing up for the highly sought- after Presidential nomination. The decentralized voting procedure will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in influencing the final outcome of the contest.

Party members and supporters are eagerly awaiting the chance to engage in this significant democratic event as the Presidential primary draws nearer.
