In a show of solidarity and resistance against what they perceive as politically motivated persecution, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has thrown its full support behind the actions taken by the Minority Caucus in Ghana' s Parliament.

The Minority MPs have taken a stand against the prosecution of some of their fellow legislators and boycotted parliamentary sessions on multiple occasions. The boycotts were intended as a demonstration of support for their colleague, James Gyakye Quayson, the Assin North MP, who faces charges of perjury. Additionally, three other NDC MPs, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Asutifi South MP Collins Dauda, and James Gyakye Quayson, are currently facing trial in separate cases.
The NDC strongly believes that these legal actions against their members are merely tactics employed by the government to persecute and intimidate their legislators. The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, expressed concerns over the Minority' s boycott without an official notification, stating that it could breach the standing orders of the house and potentially result in the loss of their seats.
However, this threat has not deterred the NDC MPs. Speaking on Eyewitness News, Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the party, emphasized that they are resolute in their cause and are willing to face the consequences for what they consider a defense of the constitution and democracy. He assured that they are mindful of the legal implications but refrained from disclosing their strategies.
" These threats of MPs losing their seats, if they continue with the boycott, do not move us at all because what we are doing is in the interest of our constitution and democracy. We are mindful of all these legal issues, and you can be rest assured that we will not get to that stage. But it is not for us to disclose our strategy relative to some of these issues, " Sammy Gyamfi stated firmly.
The NDC' s unwavering support for their fellow MPs and their bold stance against what they perceive as political victimization adds further tension to Ghana' s political landscape. As the situation unfolds, the nation awaits the outcome of these trials and the possible impact on the country' s democratic processes.11
