Recently, a heart-wrenching event unfolded when the Titan submersible tragically imploded, claiming the lives of its five crew members. The submarine, operated by OceanGate, had been en route to explore the wreckage of the Titanic, a maritime disaster that has captivated the public's fascination for decades. As investigations continue into the incident in the depths of the North Atlantic, AiTELLY, a specialized company in 3D engineering animations, has shed light on the implosion through a powerful and educational YouTube video.


The video begins by explaining the concept of implosion—an event that occurs when an object succumbs to external pressure, surpassing the vessel's structural integrity. In the case of the ill-fated Titan, the immense underwater pressure distorted the vehicle's frame, causing it to collapse inwards with devastating consequences.


Unlike an explosion, where energy is released outward, an underwater implosion subjects the object to immense water pressure, generating a shock wave that compresses air and water, eventually collapsing into a vacuum bubble with tremendous force.


The six-minute video has rapidly gone viral, amassing over six million views since its posting on June 30. In its narration, AiTELLY attributes the accident to the carbon fiber construction of the Titan, which proved inadequate to withstand the extreme underwater conditions at a depth of almost 13,000 feet (4,000 meters) where the Titanic lies. The pressure at such depths reaches around 5,600 pounds per square inch, nearly 400 times greater than what is experienced at the surface. While traditional submarine technology relies on materials like steel, titanium, and aluminum to prevent crushing, the Titan's experimental carbon fiber design proved insufficient.


To create the stunning 3D animation, AiTELLY employed Blender, an open-source software. The team gathered information and measurements from the OceanGate website and Google to ensure accuracy in their representation. The meticulous process required approximately 12 hours of dedicated effort, culminating in a remarkably detailed and informative video.
