President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has acknowledged and approved the resignation of Cecilia Abena Dapaah from her positions as Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources and as a member of the government.
According to reports, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has purportedly approved the resignation of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, who served as the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resource.
According to asaaseradio.com, a reliable source from the Office of the President has verified that Cecilia Dapaah's resignation has been acknowledged.
On Saturday, July 22, 2023, the minister conveyed her decision to step down to President Akufo-Addo. This decision followed reports of a theft at the couple's residence in Abelempke, Accra, involving a substantial sum of $1 million, €300, 000 and millions of Ghana Cedis being stolen by her two employees.
In her resignation letter addressed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the minister clarified that she chose to step down due to how detrimental impact it is to the government in relation to issues surrounding the monies stolen at this crucial moment.
However, she noted that the subject of theft in her home as captured by many reports has been grossly exaggerated.
“Since yesterday, Friday, July 21, 2023, social and traditional media have been full of stories about a court case involving a theft that took place last year in the home I live with my husband and daughter. The stories sought to suggest that I own various huge sums of foreign currencies and millions of Ghana cedis which have been stolen from my home.
“Whereas I can state emphatically that those figures do not represent correctly what my husband and I reported to the Police, I am very much aware of the import of such stories around someone in my position”.
Moreover, President Akufo-Addo praised Cecilia Dapaah's dedication to upholding the reputation and position of his administration. He also expressed gratitude for her wholehearted commitment and support towards the advancement of the government and the nation.
The President will soon appoint a new Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources.
A statement that was signed, issued and explained by Eugene Bentum Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency.
Also Bentum Arhin expressed his desire for her success in all her pursuits.
