GHANAIAN MINISTER ARRESTED OVER SUSPECTED CORRUPTION

Cecilia Dapaah, who served as the previous Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, has been detained on suspicion of being involved in corrupt activity, according to the Office of the Special Prosecutor, which has confirmed the detention.


At 11:55 GMT on 24 July 2023, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, who resigned from the position of Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources on 22 July 2023, was placed under arrest by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in respect of suspected corruption and corruption-related offences regarding large amounts of money and other valuable items reportedly stolen from her residence. The statement was released by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.


"Authorised Officers of the OSP are currently questioning Ms. Dapaah," the sentence reads.


Her arrest came after the office of the Special Prosecutor was bombarded with several reports, all of which urged the prompt investigation of a considerable amount of money stolen from the properties of the former Minister. This led to her arrest.


 Was informed by reliable sources that significant persons have filed over 200 reports expressing their concerns regarding the origin of the stolen cash, which were reportedly taken by the two house aids of the previous Minister.


On Saturday, July 22, 2023, Madam Cecilia Dapaah made the announcement that she would be resigning. The discovery that her househelps had reportedly stolen considerable amounts of both international and local money from her property in Accra led to her decision to retire as a result of the situation.


People all throughout the country were taken aback by the brazen robbery after the incident, which sent shockwaves throughout the country.


Patience Botwe, age 18, and Sarah Agyei, age 30, are the two housemaids who are currently standing trial for their alleged roles in the heist before the Accra Circuit Court.


It is stated that between July 2022 and October 2022, they burglarized the residence of Madam Dapaah in Abelenkpe, Accra, and took an astonishing amount of money totaling one million dollars, three hundred thousand euros, and millions of Ghanaian cedis.
